The format
Twenty-four teams, up from twenty in 2023. Six pools of four, with the top two from each pool and the four best third-placed teams going through to a round of 16. That means more matches, more must-win pool games, and a knockout bracket that starts a week earlier than fans used to the old format will expect. The host cities
Eight stadiums across seven cities. Perth opens the tournament on 1 October. Sydney hosts the final on 13 November and is the only city with two venues. Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Newcastle and Townsville complete the map. Each city gives a different trip: harbour and coast in Sydney, river city and rugby heartland in Brisbane, wine country a short drive from Adelaide.
